Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGDVisual Engineering-as-a-Service
The focus of the ongoing collaborative project is the development of the cloud-enabled service platform “Visual Engineering-as-a-Service.” The concept is based on the Visual Computing-as-a-Service technology developed at Fraunhofer IGD and builds on the existing expertise and software modules of S.K.M. Informatik GmbH. Key features of the architectural concept include the decoupling of the frontend (e.g., an app on a tablet or AR glasses) from dynamically orchestrated services in the cloud that work with design data and existing data storage systems. This approach enables both the online marketing of new services and the implementation of customer-specific solutions with a high degree of reusability.
The development of the services is being driven by concrete application scenarios. These are based on current requirements from shipyards for making design changes after production has already begun, or the retrofitting of existing facilities in the chemical industry, where the current structural state is captured using laser scanners and then merged with CAD data.
