Biometrics Week 2026: Research takes center stage in November

News /

The biometrics community is currently coming together at Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt for four days of exchange and discussions on current developments in the field. In November, Biometrics Week will continue with a particular focus on research. The Darmstadt Biometrics Research Week will bring together experts from research and practice to discuss current research questions, emerging technologies and future developments in biometrics.

Fraunhofer IGD will also contribute to this research focus with “Biometrics and AI @ Fraunhofer IGD”. The focus will be on recent developments in biometrics and artificial intelligence and their impact on secure and trustworthy digital identity.

Topics will range from biometric recognition and digital identity to trustworthy AI and security, as well as challenges posed by manipulated and synthetic media. Alongside current research approaches, the focus will also be on their relevance to real-world applications and on how biometric and AI-based technologies can be deployed securely and reliably.

Fraunhofer IGD will provide insights into current research and technologies, including work conducted within ATHENE, the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity. Additional contributions from research partners will offer further perspectives and opportunities for exchange between research and practice.

The Darmstadt Biometrics Research Week will also include BIOSIG 2026, activities by CAST, and the European Biometrics Awards, including the presentation of the Max Snijder Award.

Further details on the program will be added as they become available.
