Partner Days 2025 at Fraunhofer IGD

Shaping Digitalization in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Press Releases /

How is digitalization transforming Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and who is actively shaping this change? These questions took center stage at the Partner Days 2025 hosted by the Fraunhofer IGD in Rostock. Around 50 representatives from politics, business, and science gathered on October 8 to exchange insights on ongoing projects and explore new impulses for the state’s digital transformation.

A tour through the demos at Fraunhofer IGD included, among others, the “Next Reality – Virtual Helicopter Training” by Steve Dübel.

The event focused on projects from the fields of bioeconomy, smart farming, and the maritime industry. During several guided tours, researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD showcased AI-based systems for plant analysis, precision methods for agriculture, and technologies for early detection and control of diseases in strawberries, sugar beets, and cereals. They also presented digital solutions for improving animal welfare and methods to assess the CO₂ storage capacity of peatlands. For the maritime sector, the researchers demonstrated innovations ranging from digital fish monitoring in rivers, aquaculture, and commercial fisheries to technologies that systematically detect and document unexploded ordnance in the sea.

Research and practice in dialogue on digitalization

The Partner Days primarily target Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Digital Ambassadors – multipliers from business, administration, science, and civil society who share successful examples of digital transformation within their regions and networks.

»We don’t want to discuss digitalization in the abstract, we want to make it tangible. The Partner Days bring together innovative minds and make ideas visible across the state. This shows the many opportunities digitalization offers Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and how we can seize them together«, says Mareike Donath, Head of the Digital Transformation Unit at the Ministry of the Interior and Building of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

»At Fraunhofer IGD, we see ourselves as a partner to business, science, and policymakers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Our research aims to develop concrete solutions for companies as well as for societal challenges. The Partner Days provide an ideal platform to present these innovations and further develop them through direct exchange«, emphasizes Dr. Matthias Unbescheiden, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD.

In addition to the presentations, the event offered ample space for discussion and networking.
Participants took advantage of the opportunity to make new contacts and develop ideas for future projects.

The Partner Days are part of the statewide event series »Digitales MV«, which takes place monthly in different regions of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The series aims to make digitalization visible, connect key stakeholders, and spread best practices throughout the state. In doing so, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern becomes a showcase for practical digital transfer — creating sustainable networks and embedding transformation at the local level.
