July 14, 2021 – Webinar for SMEs: Mobile Ultrasound Systems for Medical Applications
As part of a webinar series, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Biomedical Engineering IBMT and for Computer Graphics Research IGD present their technologies to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and offer the opportunity for confidential exchange on potential cooperation ideas. On July 14, 2021, the focus will be on ultrasound technology. Participation is free of charge.
The dissemination of affordable and intelligent medical technology makes a significant contribution to improving health and the well-being of our society. In the field of ultrasound diagnostics in particular, technological advances over the past decade—such as highly integrated electronic components and artificial intelligence methods—have opened up new possibilities for device integration and process development. This has led to the emergence of innovative, dedicated mobile ultrasound systems for use in classical diagnostic applications.
While large, established system providers can afford to take high R&D risks when developing novel approaches and technologies, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) lack basic technologies they can quickly and flexibly build upon to implement new product ideas cost-effectively and without long development times. This gap is addressed by the Fraunhofer cluster “Mobile Smart Echo,” which, through the strategic collaboration of several Fraunhofer institutes, targets interested SMEs. Fraunhofer offers application-specific and innovative end-to-end solutions based on mobile, low-cost, and flexible ultrasound systems that also meet the regulatory requirements important for rapid market entry, such as the Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
For many years, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Biomedical Engineering IBMT and for Computer Graphics Research IGD have been offering ultrasound system solutions and components for both research and OEM products. Within the framework of the Fraunhofer initiative KMU-akut, selected topics that have reached a sufficient level of maturity for the transfer of technologies and research results are currently being additionally supported. This initiative aims to provide SMEs with easy, fast, and straightforward access to the expertise of the Fraunhofer institutes. Through cooperation with Fraunhofer, the R&D risk for SMEs interested in new market-relevant activities in the context of mobile, flexibly adaptable ultrasound systems is significantly reduced.
