In recent years, schools have increasingly opened up to the opportunities of digital education. They aim to develop further and actively drive their own digital transformation. To motivate schools to sharpen their digital profile and integrate computer science topics more strongly into teaching, the national initiative “MINT Zukunft schaffen!” launched the “Digital School” award. The seal recognizes and encourages the commitment of school leadership and teachers who advocate for modern education in the digital world.

Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (MINT) have gained increasing importance in school development. The “MINT-Friendly Schools” honored today demonstrate that their school concepts enable them to integrate ad hoc measures—such as digitalization—into everyday school life in a didactically and pedagogically sound manner. Through the award, MINT-friendly schools become visible to students, parents, companies, and the public, and are not only recognized by industry but also receive special support. Nationwide partners of the “MINT Zukunft schaffen!” initiative honor those schools that consciously set MINT priorities. Schools are evaluated on the basis of a demanding, standardized set of criteria and go through a nationwide, uniform application process.
