At EuroTier 2026, Fraunhofer IGD will be presenting innovative solutions to improve animal welfare. One of our highlights is the AI-supported early detection of lameness in dairy cows. Lameness is one of the most common health problems in dairy farming and affects both animal welfare and the economic viability of farms. The camera-based health monitoring system developed by Fraunhofer IGD uses artificial intelligence to continuously analyze the animals' gait, posture and movement patterns. This enables the early, objective detection of initial signs of lameness without the need for any intervention on the animal. The insights gained help farmers to take targeted action and optimize herd management in a sustainable manner.
