Judith Louise Pieper

Judith Pieper works in the field of Smart Livestock Farming at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) in Rostock. Her work focuses on AI-supported solutions for livestock farming — in particular, image-based lameness detection and behavioral analysis in dairy cows, as well as automated pregnancy diagnostics using ultrasound.

She previously studied Agricultural Economics at Kiel University (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel) and Biosystems Engineering at Wageningen University (Netherlands). With her specialization in Farm Technologies and several years of hands-on experience managing her family’s dairy farm, she brings both technical and agricultural expertise to her research.

In addition to her scientific work, strong emphasis is placed on close collaboration with agricultural enterprises, start-ups, and industry partners to ensure practical implementation of research results.
