Sergio Staab has been a substitute professor at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences since 2025 in the field of Smart Health. His main focus is on motion detection and human motion analysis in the context of healthcare and nursing. Since 2023, he has also been working as a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD.
At Fraunhofer IGD, he develops and evaluates AI-powered information and assistance systems for health and care applications. His research focuses on applied AI, machine learning, activity and movement recognition, human motion analysis, and the processing of wearable and sensor data. A key focus of his work is translating data and AI models into robust, explainable, and user-centered solutions for health care and nursing care.
In teaching, he is currently responsible for the courses Usability Engineering, Web Technologies II, and Current Topics, integrating his research and practical experience into the education of students.
His academic career began with studies in Applied Computer Science at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 2016 and his Master of Science in 2020, both with a focus on application development. For his outstanding performance, he received the Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship) several times.
In 2024, his doctoral dissertation at the Doctoral Center for Applied Computer Science was awarded magna cum laude, and he received the title Doctor of Natural Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.).
He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in renowned journals and conference proceedings.
