Water damage is one of the most common types of damage in residential areas – yet settling such claims is often time-consuming and costly for insurance companies. On-site visits, multiple appointments due to late reports, or unclear photo documentation complicate transparent assessments. This is exactly where AssureXR comes in: Developed in collaboration with R+V Versicherung, it allows complete documentation of damage sites via smartphone scan. What makes it unique: The results can later be experienced in virtual reality as if you were physically present – including spatial measurements, annotations, and customer records.
Using standard smartphones, the application generates a complete 3D scan of the affected space in just a few minutes. Photos, videos, and 360° images are combined into a virtual environment that can then be explored and assessed directly in the browser. Experts gain a precise overall impression – regardless of time or location. Especially in cases involving insurance fraud or incomplete initial reports, the solution provides transparency and builds trust.
An upgrade of the current technology is in progress to add features like automatic placement of 360° images in photorealistic quality. The goal is to create a fully automated system that not only revolutionizes claims processing but can also be applied in areas such as construction monitoring, renovation, or maintenance. The solution is locally based – with no transmission of sensitive data to third parties – and offers supplementary tools for complete damage documentation.
As part of a recent project extension, AssureXR is being enhanced with functions directly derived from user feedback. These include even more intuitive operation, shorter loading times, and expanded options for damage assessment. In the future, policyholders will be able to independently record damages via smartphone—including 360° views, exterior shots, and automatically generated floor plans spanning multiple levels.
New tools such as a marking function within the 3D model, an improved annotation overview, and drag-and-drop functionality for inserting photos into expert reports will further simplify the work of surveyors. In the long term, a dedicated scanning app is also planned, combining 3D capture with supplementary information such as photos or notes in a single step.
The solution will remain strictly local, without transferring sensitive data to third parties, and will offer additional tools for comprehensive and transparent documentation. The further development is planned over approximately nine months and will be carried out in several agile releases.
