Contribution of Fraunhofer IGD

Fraunhofer IGD develops “Cuttlefish”, a streaming-capable, voxel-based printer driver to control multimaterial 3D printers. In order to minimize memory consumption needs and start the printing process even for complex and large 3D models within just a few seconds, Cuttlefish merely calculates the information required at the particular time for printing.

Another contribution of Fraunhofer IGD is its experience in geometric modeling. For the realm of 3D printing, Fraunhofer IGD is focusing on modeling internal structures in order to use rapid FEM simulations to automatically optimize internal structures in terms of orientation, thickness and material properties.
