Uwe von Lukas graduated with a diploma in computer science from the TU Darmstadt in 1994. He began his professional career in Rostock initially as a research assistant at the Center for Computer Graphics (ZGDV), where he took over the CAD & Teleservices department in 1999 and, following his doctorate at the University of Rostock, also became head of the Rostock office of the ZGDV. In early 2009, he moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD at the Rostock site. Since July 2020, he has held the professorship for Maritime Graphics at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Rostock. Already in 2010, he was appointed Honorary Professor for Virtual Product Development and is a member of the Interdisciplinary Faculty in the Department of Maritime Systems. He is a board member of the Subsea Monitoring Network e.V. and Rostock denkt 365 ° e.V. as well as a member of the advisory board of the Gesellschaft für Maritime Technik e.V..
