From September 4 through 7, 2018, the focus in Hamburg will be on shipping, but much more than is usual in this Hanseatic city: Every two years, the leaders of the maritime industry meet at the SMM to discuss a range of topics, from large-scale industrial engineering for ships and shipyards to ship equipment and fittings, cargo handling systems, marine engineering and maritime services. The 2200 exhibitors include Fraunhofer IGD, whose Rostock site focuses on maritime image processing. Also on board: the Digital Ship.
Maritime 4.0: The digital ship as information hub
3D design models contain complete information about geometry, materials and function. The reliable and scalable WebVis/instant3Dhub platform by Fraunhofer IGD offers staff efficient, web-based access to this information from anywhere in the world. The freely configurable platform can be used to create department- and task-specific applications that link the 3D model to data from purchasing, operations scheduling or quality assurance departments. Tailored solutions and optimized data encoding allow customers to efficiently digitize company processes across a broad range of end devices, from desktop PCs to smartphones, to augmented reality glasses.
