  • It is one of the standard tasks of marine research and the ecological evaluation of offshore installations to document the flora and fauna on the ocean floor or in the water column. Underwater images are making an important contribution to these research purposes. In the submarine world, different limiting conditions are to be observed than on land: severe interference caused by floating particles and difficult lighting conditions strongly affect the quality of underwater images.

    For many users the objective tracing of physical activity is of great importance. Via pattern recognition heterogeneous signals from sensors which are worn at the body can be processed and used to determine the type and duration of activity, periods of rest or sleep. With DiaTrace it is possible to recognise activity by simply wearing smartwatches or having a smartphone in the pocket.

  • The project deals with the use of digitalization to assess and to identify general and individual problem constellations in palliative care, in order to be able to derive an optimization of work processes and structuring. The personal stress level is often misjudged, so that in addition to the physical strain, psychological symptoms such as exhaustion or even a burn-out syndrome or a depressive episode can occur.

    Oceans and seas offer numerous methods of utilization from the coast to the deep sea. They have always been used as routes of transport for worldwide freight traffic and are also a source of high-quality food. Energy and mineral resources in the deep sea are, economically, very attractive.

    To sustainably utilize the ocean, technologies are needed that take into account demanding subsea conditions such as high pressures, visibility and currents under water as well as the rough climate above water.

    A large part of the production times in today's production facilities are still occupied by maintenance and troubleshooting activities. One of the reasons for this is the complexity of the information provided by the various production management systems and its evaluation. This data must first be analysed and interpreted by experienced specialists before suitable action can be taken, such as commissioning maintenance. But even the worker on site often finds himself in the situation of having to carry out new activities that he is not familiar with, so that he has to consult appropriate, often abstract, documentation in advance. - This results in avoidable downtimes.

  • Today, electronical nautical charts (ENCs) are commonly used to support the safe navigation of ships. It is an essential purpose of these electronical nautical charts to give information on water depths and their accompanying uncertainties. Thus, shipping routes that provide sufficient keel clearance at all times can be chosen.

    The representation of water depths according to the S-52 charts standard is generally accepted. However, the present visualization of uncertainties and high quality data aspects is critically examined as it is difficult to understand and thus used rarely.
