The intelligent rollator helps in the aftercare of knee and hip operations by analyzing the individual gait pattern of the person concerned.

The autonomous robot rollator RoRo is used for support in hospitals or nursing homes to analyze the walking behavior of the users after a hip or knee surgery. RoRo helps to train them individually and provides certain walk exercises. In addition, the autonomous robot rollator will pick up the patients independently for hospital-internal appointments, such as X-rays, physiotherapy, etc. and provide accompanying and navigation support, so that also the nurses are relieved.

  • Nowadays, before industrial robots can effectively be used in production environments, the robots undergo a time-consuming teach-in process. As a consequence, repeatedly conceptualizing the three-dimensional movement options for a robot, mapped in the form of a coordinate system, and programming the movement paths represents an extremely complex task and restricts the flexibility.

  • The joint project BAAL (www.baal.aal-mv.de) aims at developing a modular, flexible and scalable system for further training in ambient assisted living (AAL). On the one hand professional and academic trainings are to be developed which meet the requirements of different target groups. On the other hand communication and networking opportunities between the different professional groups involved are to be created.

  • The project BD2Decide is funded by the European Union within its Horizon 2020 framework program. Its aim is to develop a prediction model for the re-occurrences of tumors in the head & neck area. BD2Decide is the successor of the FP7 funded project OraMod, whose focus was on cancers of the oral cavity – now extended to the complete head & neck area.

  • In biometric systems, the stored reference data comprise unique features of a data subject, which can contain sensitive data (i.e., ethnicity, diseases). If the reference data is compromised, biometric characteristics cannot be cancelled or replaced. Furthermore the amount of biometric characteristics of a single subject is limited. Multiple enrolments of biometric features for different applications can further lead to a Cross-Matching-Problem if those applications get linked with each other.

  • The market for biometric systems is young and experiencing dynamic growth. Quality and performance are constantly improving. However, individual products differ considerably and systems from different manufacturers do not necessarily work together or comply with the same standards. Due to the steadily improving technology and resulting increases in user convenience, biometrics is working its way into the consumer market and the demand for biometric systems is rising at an ever faster rate.

The efficient connection of computer assisted design (CAD) and virtual reality (VR) is of great importance to product developers nowadays. They increasingly use VR models for design reviews and presentations. The basis for these models is usually the raw CAD created by design engineers. The transformation of CAD data into VR models is done by conversion software, that usually comes with expensive VR data processing tools.

The Competence Center for Industrial Applications of Fraunhofer IGD develops the CAD conversion software CAD2X.
