  • Innovative, knowledge-based port control centers open up various new possibilities to the logistics systems of the future. In order to enable this, it is necessary to equip the so far “unintelligent” and “mute” goods and products in port handling with an appropriate level of “own intelligence”, so that they can find their way around the logistical system of the future on their own. The accompanying vision of a situation-dependent, intuitive monitoring, control and planning of port-related processes can be made possible due to the DYNAMICPORT system components.

ECHOMICS is a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of its initiative SME-Innovative: Medical Technology. For this project, Fraunhofer IGD is working with its project partners to analyze typical clinical pictures of lymph nodes in the throat using modern ultrasound imaging. The goal of this analysis is to develop ultrasound-based ECHOMICS signatures in terms of biomarker profiles with which lymph nodes can be noninvasively characterized.

  • Although simulation technologies are used successfully in nearly all-industrial fields, the realistic simulation of human motion is still major challenge. Why a human moves in certain situations in exactly that way and which stresses affect there the musculoskeletal system, is still an open research question, which should be answered in the project EMMA-CC (Ergo-dynamic Moving Manikin with Cognitive Control).

Fraunhofer IGD evaluated the recognition accuracy of four commercial off-the-shelf face identification systems for use in forensics. Face identification systems for use in forensics provide candidate lists with a selectable length (here: 100 candidates) to be checked by experts in forensic face recognition. The German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) provided the digital face images used in the evaluation. In each system under test, approximately 4.8 million frontal portraits of approximately 3 million test subjects served as reference images.
