SAMi – Sensor-based Activity Assistant for People with Dementia
The aim of the sub-project "Smartwatch-based Sensors & Actuators" is to determine and analyze mobile sensors and it´s data to determine the execution of the currently performed activity, parameters for the health status and the current location of the user. These data can be used to assess the present situation of people with dementia and, if necessary, to provide assistance.

The project aims to adapt algorithms for sleep detection in people with dementia and to extract relevant features for the assessment of disease-specific behavioral patterns. In particular, new knowledge about the sleep and night behavior of elderly or people with dementia people are collected. It will be investigated whether the identification of REM sleep phases with actigraphy is possible. Also relevant is the research of empirical values that describe the process or the development of the disease (prevention measures and early detection of dementia behavior). In order to determine these disease-specific behavioral patterns, the project intends to cooperate closely with the medical profession and specialist staff.
