This joint project is developing and prototyping concepts for the efficient industrial manufacture of highly flexible buildings and the addition of a virtual building to physical buildings based on a building information model.
The focus of Fraunhofer IGD in this project is on virtualization. The subproject “House 4.0 - information-based services for highly flexible, multipurpose buildings” is developing software-based components to enhance the physical building. These components are intended to:
- Collect and store relevant spatial, temporal and life cycle-related information on a physical building in a BIM.
- Visualize this information in a virtual xD building model as a representation of the actual building.
- Simplify the stationary and mobile visualization and collection of information in the virtual building model using visual computing processes (3D, augmented reality [AR], virtual reality [VR]).
- Implement information-based 3D building management services for customers and subcontractors of Stieblich Hallenbau GmbH.
Implementing the software-based components requires new methods and technology for collecting and visualizing multidimensional building information both on site and in a remote operating scenario. To do this, the subproject is relying on Fraunhofer IGD’s years of experience in visual computing and in similar application scenarios in the area of industry 4.0.
Specifically, the project is relying on Fraunhofer IGD’s previous work on the visual production control station Plant@Hand3D and on the AR work support software solution Social Augmented Reality.
