    Metal AM on the verge of a breakthrough

    The planned system technology, with which the post-processing is to be automated, is constructed according to a modular principle.

    In the Fraunhofer lighthouse project “futureAM – Next Generation Additive Manufacturing,” an alliance of six Fraunhofer institutes shall accelerate 3D printing with metal powder by at least a factor of ten. The first tangible results prove that this is not a dream of the future. The futureAM team will be presenting these results at the joint Fraunhofer booth D51 in Hall 11 during formnext from November 19 to 22, 2019 in Frankfurt am Main.

    Fabricating Beauty: The Art and Science of Graphical 3D Printing

    Special exhibit “Java Gold”: digitization with CultArm3D-P

    The golden earring in form of a mythological demon (found in Java, ca. 14.-15. century AD) was digitized by Fraunhofer IGD.

    In August, our experts from the Cultural Heritage Digitization Competence Center spent a week in Mannheim color-scanning gold jewelry (from the 7th to 15th centuries) from the Reiss Engelhorn Museum (rem) in three dimensions using the autonomous CultArm3D-P scanning system.
