The aerospace industry entails the manufacture of highly complex and often extremely large products. The focus is on safety, ergonomics, efficiency and, above all, cost effectiveness.
Fraunhofer IGD’s interactive CUPstomizer software simplifies and accelerates the typically complicated, costly and time-consuming process of product development. It can increase the speed of simulated stress tests by a factor of up to 70 – making the solution ideal for the short production runs and prototypes frequently required in aerospace. A key aspect of the software is its ability to model additive manufacturing – one of the major topics at this year’s ILA Berlin, the international aerospace exhibition.
To date, simulating the behavior of diverse materials and mechanical stresses – and therefore a product’s strength – has required significant time and effort. What makes the new solution special is the way it analyzes the product’s volumetric information.
Fraunhofer IGD’s new CUPstomizer software directly and automatically visualizes the results of the simulation, including stress patterns across components. This enables design engineers to quickly and simply modify the three-dimensional shape of parts as needed.
