RAILCONTACT takes place June 12 and 13, 2018 at Messe Congress Graz: Fraunhofer Austria will present new technologies in high-precision tracking and handling of complex data. The modules on display will be interactive and available to visitors for demo.
If augmented reality is to be used in industry, the technology has various challenges to overcome: On the one hand, it is important to precisely track objects by camera to determine their position and position in space. On the other hand, the enormous amounts of data that arise as a result must be able to be evaluated in a meaningful way. Fraunhofer Austria will demonstrate how this can be achieved for the railroad industry with two interactive demo applications at the RAILCONTACT exhibition congress taking place for the fifth time on June 12 and 13, 2018 in Graz.
VisionLib facilitates maintenance for locomotives, for example
VisionLib software can precisely detect the position and orientation of a camera in relation to an object and thus evaluate the camera images in a targeted manner. In this way it can facilitate the maintenance of a locomotive. A client-server solution can also be used to create annotations that are displayed simultaneously on several devices. For example, a worker sees an expert’s notes on a HoloLens; meanwhile, the expert views the worker’s annotations on a PC, tablet or mobile phone and can then provide the necessary assistance.
Instant3DHub: View complex data anywhere, easily and securely
The flood of data required for AR applications can quickly push graphics cards and processors to their limits in mobile devices. Once again, researchers from Fraunhofer Austria present a solution: The Instant3DHub platform. It analyzes the data fully automatically, divides them spatially and transmits only those elements to the mobile devices that are needed there. The performance of the software does not depend on the device. Both developments of Fraunhofer IGD in partnership with Fraunhofer Austria in Graz, the technologies VisionLib and Instant3Dhub can be combined.
