Intelligent furniture can acquire and analyze health-relevant data, such as current respiratory or heart rate. For this purpose, sensors can be built into a couch, for instance. Via machine learning, they search for anomalies in order to detect breathing pauses or an unusual heart rate.
Fraunhofer IGD also develops mobile assistance systems for therapeutic support in cases of metabolic disease or obesity, but also to identify loosening prosthetic devices or the type and extent of any post-operative physical therapy performed. Body sensor data may also detect and assess signs of psychosomatic or neuronal degenerative diseases (such as dementia or burn-out).
