The incessant increase of the hardware and network capacities and improvement of software and compressing algorithms like MPEG 1 Layer III generates a rapidly growing market for dealing with digital data like audio, video and 3D. Besides an easier distribution and reduced storage requirements the negative effects are an uncontrolled spreading of copyrighted material. Easy-to-use peer-to-peer services are currently used to exchange the data locally stored on the systems of participating clients. As a result, illegal copying and distribution especially of music via the Internet must be considered a new form of piracy. New technologies are necessary to incorporate protection of intellectual property rights. Acwa, WoMuS and GeoMark are so-called watermarking technologies developed in the Security Technology departement at IGD which guarantee the quality of the marked data and provide robustness of the embedded watermark.
Current Projects
- AXMEDIS
The AXMEDIS consortium is to create a framework to provide innovative methods and tools to speed up and optimise content production and distribution, up to the production-on-demand capability, for leisure, entertainment and digital content valorisation and exploitation in general. - CONFUO©O
Secure and Legal Peer-to-Peer Filesharing - Ecrypt
Intensification the collaboration of European researchers in information security, and more in particular in cryptology and digital watermarking - iDetective
Automated Discovery of Brand Piracy on the Internet
Concluded Projects
- GEOMARK
GEOMARK is one of the first systems worldwide that is capable of embedding private watermarks in 3D geometric data. - CERTIMARK
Certification of watermarking techniques. - OCTALIS
Offer of Contents through Trusted Access LInkS
Realization of important mechanism for securing multimedia information access over networks or throug broadcasting technology. - OKAPI
Open Kernel for Access to Protected Interoperable interactive services
OKAPI aims to develop a trusted kernel which appears like a distributed Operating System. - SysCoP (project homepage)
System for Copyright Protection
SysCoP is a tool for embedding digital watermarking into images and video streams. The watermark is perceptually invisible, secret and robust against a wide range of image processing operations. - TALISMAN
Tracing Authors' rights by Labeling Image Services and Monitoring Access Network TALISMAN will provide European Community service providers with a standard copyright mechanism to protect their digital products against piracy and illegal copying. - WEDELMUSIC
Web DELivering of MUSIC scores
Distribution of protected digital music objects (audio, symbolic and image formats) via Internet.
